SMTP probes are accurate when the receiving server answers. Some providers (Yahoo, AOL) accept any address at the protocol level — for those we return "unknown". We never send mail; we only ask if it would be accepted.
Risky usually means it's a role-account address (info@, support@, admin@) or the SMTP server gave a temporary "try again" response. Risky doesn't mean bad — it means "use with caution".
